Eva Short Film

We used Skai's script for our film. The script was originally about a little boy with an abusive father, and how the mother endures his abuse. We had to make several changes to the script because of what we had available actor-wise. We changed it to a little girl and her big sister, and how they dealt with an abusive and alcoholic mother. The storyline was still overall the same, however.

Our pre-production went well. We had a few script changes, but that was the only real road bump we ran into. Location scouting and actors were decided fairly early on. We finished all filming in a single day at Skai's house. It went very smoothly except for a camera dying, resulting in a few lost shots. Post-production went well and I really enjoyed editing it. I had to stay after school a few times to make sure it got done on time, but all things considered it went smoothly.

I was the editor for our film, and I also provided the actor for the little girl (my sister). I love editing. It is without a doubt my favorite part of the film making progress. I really wanted this film to have an authentic cinematic look, so I watched a lot of youtube tutorials that taught me how to achieve it. I learned how to add black bars on the top and bottom of the screen, and how to effectively color grade. I am happy with the final edit of our film, even though I would change a few things color-wise but I simply didn't have the time. I was really happy to hear praise on our film's editing by Mrs. Smith.

I think our film crew definitely succeeded in the five guarantees. Everyone was really professional and carried their weight in the project. We communicated well through a group chat, our director (Skai) showed great leadership and took charge for much of the film, we all collaborated and had fun making it, and we finished the project on time with nearly every requirement fulfilled (except the time limit).

We ran into some issues, however. Our team got some criticism for having a cuss word in our film. I had to edit it out in post and add a 'bleep' noise to censor it. I would definitely have added the bleep in the original edit if I was able to do this again. But besides this, I think our team succeeded in this assignment and have a very strong final product.

In the next projects we will work on, I will make sure to remember no expletives!!! I will also apply what I have learned editing-wise to all my future films to make sure they appear just as 'professional' as this one.
In conclusion, I had a lot of fun on this project and can't wait to make more films in the future.
